Since the condition is more on a psychological response, counseling and questioning is necessary so as to set the different treatments effective for the patient. It is a must since effectiveness of treatments vary from person to person. Panic attack is also known as stress response thus it is essential to determine situations or life events that might contribute to a stressful situation. Keep in mind that stress you cannot avoid stress and the only thing you are up to is manage stress.

Treatments can be divided into pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic methods. Pharmacologic treatments mostly deal with intake of drugs to manage the condition. On the other hand, it is usually prescribed so as to decrease the severity of symptoms to make the person relaxed. Usual medications taken to manage panic attacks include Diazepam, Meprobamate, Alprazolam, Halazepam and Chlordiazepoxide. Anti-anxiety or anxiolytics are known to be effective in causing muscle relaxation and sense of well-being. The following effects are known to be absent in a person who is experiencing an attack.

On the other side, non-pharmacologic approach in treating panic attacks can be a very good way to minimize the attack. Relaxation and stress-diversion techniques are some of the effective ways to manage the attacks. Listening to soothing music and drinking some tea are known to provide a calming effect to a stressed individual. On the other hand, if the person is in the middle of the attack, provide the patient an environment free from any form of distraction that will worsen the condition. The best goal during the attack is to calm the person but in some instances it is impossible since the person is having disturbed perception and judgment. Thus, it is best to orient to person in a calm approach and set limits in the environment so as to prevent accidents.
